Your privacy matters. SnapDoc is designed as a local-first app — your documents never leave your device. This policy explains exactly what data is used, why, and by whom.
Data We Collect
SnapDoc does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to our servers. The only data collection that occurs is through our third-party advertising partner, Google AdMob, as described below.
Specifically, we do not collect:
Your scanned documents or their contents
Your name, email address, or account information
Your location
Your contacts or calendar data
Any biometric data from Face ID
Camera Access Local Only
We request access to your device camera solely to allow you to capture documents for scanning within the app.
Camera images are processed entirely on your device
No photos are uploaded, transmitted, or shared
Camera access is only active when you are actively using the scan feature
Permission used
NSCameraUsageDescription — required by iOS to access the camera. You can revoke this at any time in Settings → SnapDoc → Camera.
Photo Library Access Local Only
We request access to your photo library so you can import existing images into the app for scanning and editing.
Images are read locally from your device only
No images from your library are uploaded or stored on any server
We only access the specific photos you manually select
Permission used
NSPhotoLibraryUsageDescription — you can revoke this at any time in Settings → SnapDoc → Photos.
File Access Local Only
SnapDoc supports importing files (such as PDFs) directly from the Files app or other document providers on your device.
File access is initiated only when you explicitly choose to import a file
Imported files are processed and stored locally on your device only
No file contents are sent to external servers
Entitlements used
UISupportsDocumentBrowser and LSSupportsOpeningDocumentsInPlace — standard iOS file access entitlements.
Face ID / Secure Lock On-Device
SnapDoc offers an optional Secure Lock feature powered by Face ID (or Touch ID/Passcode as a fallback). This is used to protect access to the app and your documents.
Face ID authentication is handled entirely by iOS via the Local Authentication framework
We never access, store, or transmit your biometric data
Your Face ID data is stored in Apple's Secure Enclave on your device and is never accessible to us
This feature is fully optional and can be disabled in the app's settings
How it works
iOS returns only a pass/fail authentication result to the app. No biometric information is ever exposed to SnapDoc.
Advertising — Google AdMob Third Party
SnapDoc displays ads provided by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect certain data to serve relevant advertisements. This is the only instance of data leaving your device.
AdMob may collect or use:
Advertising identifier (IDFA) — only if you grant App Tracking Transparency permission
Approximate location (country/region level) for ad targeting
Device type, OS version, and app interaction data
IP address (used for general geographic targeting)
App Tracking Transparency (ATT)
On iOS 14+, you will be shown Apple's standard permission prompt before any advertising tracking occurs. You may decline, and the app will continue to function with non-personalized ads only.
For full details on how Google handles data, please review Google's Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and equivalent local laws.
Legal Basis for Processing
The only data processing that occurs through this app involving third parties is advertising via Google AdMob. The legal basis for this processing is:
Consent — personalized advertising only occurs if you explicitly consent via the Google Consent Management Platform (CMP) prompt shown on first launch in the EEA
Legitimate Interests — non-personalized ads may be shown to support the free availability of the app, without requiring consent
Google Consent Management Platform (CMP)
Users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland will see a consent dialog on first launch, powered by Google's UMP (User Messaging Platform) SDK. This dialog allows you to accept, decline, or manage ad personalization preferences in full compliance with GDPR and the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF v2.2).
Your GDPR Rights
Under GDPR you have the right to:
Access — request a copy of any personal data held about you
Rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
Erasure — request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
Restriction — request that processing of your data be limited
Portability — receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
Object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
Withdraw Consent — withdraw advertising consent at any time via app Settings → Ad Preferences
Since SnapDoc itself does not collect personal data, most GDPR requests relate to data held by Google AdMob. For those, please use Google's data controls at myaccount.google.com/data-and-privacy.
For any other GDPR requests, contact us at codetosmh@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days as required by law.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local Data Protection Authority (DPA). A list of EEA DPAs can be found at edpb.europa.eu.
International Data Transfers
SnapDoc itself does not transfer your data internationally. However, Google AdMob may transfer advertising-related data to servers located outside the EEA, including the United States.
Google relies on the following safeguards for such transfers:
Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission
Google's participation in the EU–US Data Privacy Framework
All documents, annotations, and settings you create in SnapDoc are stored using Core Data on your device only.
Data is stored in your app's sandboxed local storage
No data is synced to iCloud unless you separately enable iCloud Drive for this app in iOS Settings
Deleting the app removes all locally stored data permanently
Children's Privacy
SnapDoc is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through our app, please contact us and we will address it promptly.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
Continued use of the app after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
